Established in 1779, Randolph County is a big county with a small town feel. One of the great things about Randolph County is that the North Carolina Zoo is located right in the middle of the county and is easily accessed from all around. There are 3 different attractions within the zoo. In Africa you will feel like you were taken on an African safari through the zoo. You will see elephants, lions, baboons, lemur's and more! In the Aviary you will hear the sweet sounds of different unique birds that are native to North Carolina and some that aren't! There are also different types of frogs in this portion too! Some of the birds you will see are the Fairy Bluebird, Masked Lapwing, Victoria-crowned Pigeon and plenty more! Within this are you will also see some really cool plants like the Black Sapote and Amazon Lily. The last exhibit is the North American portion of the zoo and this part is broken into a few sections too! You will be able to see fish, alligators, seals but don't forget about the bears, wolfs, and honey bee garden! Throughout your visit to the zoo you will feel and be closer nature than you are anywhere else! You will learn things about animals that you never imagined and you will form a deeper appreciation for animals that you didn't expect to gain.
Besides the lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) Randolph County also has a great school system. Their motto of "students first in all we do" proves to you that they care about all of their students. They will go the extra mile to make sure every single student is prepared for that big step into the world after college. They are constantly instilling confidence in students through their participation with extracurricular activities such as sports and clubs and through all the classes they offer. In 2016, over $26 million dollars of scholarships were offered to the graduates from schools all across the county. This just goes to show that the Randolph County School System is making a difference in students.
