Madison County, North Carolina is located just north of Asheville, NC in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Madison county is home to approximately 20,800 residents as of the last census, and each and every inhabitant of the county is surrounded by some of North Carolina's finest nature. Founded in 1851 the county was named after the fourth president of the United States, James Madison, who was born nearby in Virginia. While the county may be small in population, it is situated in one of the most picturesque parts of the state, which draws tourists from around the county to see the annual changing of the leaves in October and November every year. One of the largest draws for tourists within the county is the small town of Hot Springs NC. As the name implies, Hot Springs is home to the only hot spring in all of North Carolina and one of only a limited number in the entire South Eastern United States. Since the the early 1800's European immigrants flocked to the springs for their believed healing powers. Today the town has fully embraced the tourism industry and offer much outside of just the hot springs such as mountain biking, kayaking on the French Broad river, hiking and much more!

Madison county is also home to the small liberal arts college; Mars Hill University. Mars Hill University is the oldest college in all of western North Carolina, established all the way back in 1856. The private christian university offers over 30 different baccalaureate degrees for students, as well as a graduate degree in elementary education. Currently the school is host to 1,444 students on its beautiful campus. The school is actually known internationally for its "Clogging" that has won 21 international competitions
