The charming Macon county is located in western North Carolina, bordering neighboring South Carolina. The 520 square miles of Macon are populated by 33,922 native Carolinians. The county was founded in 1828 and named after Nathaniel Macon, who proudly served for the state of North Carolina in both the House of Representatives, and the Senate for a total of 30 years. 

While the county totals approximately 520 square miles, approximately 44% of that land is within the Nantahala National forest. This excellent national park is home to some of North Carolinas best waterfalls and swimming holes around. Dry Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are two of the best known, and are must visit destinations should you find yourself looking to escape to nature in Macon county.

Within the county of Macon there are approximately 14,000 households that are home to the 9,000 families that reside within the county.  The county is predominantly white ethnically, with African American and Native American occupying the number two and three spots respectively. Franklin, North Carolina is the primary town within the county of Macon and is home to just under 4,000 residents. The town of Franklin, and the entire county of Macon, is conveniently located between several major cities. Only an hour from nearby Asheville, and only 2 short hours from Greenville (SC), Atlanta, and Knoxville.
