How do I decide what to bring with me when moving into a smaller space than before?
If your home doesn't have as much space or storage as your other home, how do you decide what you should keep and what you should throw out or give away? Old clothing, shoes, blankets, bedding, silverware, plates, pots, etc. If you have a sentimental attachment to something, you don't have to give it up. Go through your house room by room and ask yourself if you have a need for this in your new home, if you don't you can throw it away, donate it or have a yard sale!
How do I integrate and relocate my kids into their new Charlotte NC Home, SC home, or any other city within the U.S.?
Try to get your kids involved with sports or clubs in your new home. Lots of towns and cities have recreational sports teams that anyone can participate in. You can also send your kids to camps with other kids their age. There's a camp out there for everyone's interests, your kids will be able to learn and play along side of kids that share an interest in what your children like!
What should I do if something was damaged during my move to Charlotte NC or to the U.S.?
Most companies offer 30 days to file a damage or loss claim. It is very important that you insure your personal and household items while moving because you never know what could happen.
How much time should I give myself between my move to the U.S. and my starting work date?
Some people may find the transition between homes is fast and easy, others may not find it as such. After a move, we recommend that you give yourself enough time to unpack most of your personal and household items before you go back to work. You will need to be at your house when the moving trucks arrive, so you will not be able to start working the day you move to your new city or state. We suggest given yourself a minimum of two weeks of settling down time before heading off to work, this will be just enough time to get most of your home furnishings set up and just enough time to unpack most all your personal belongings.
What is the best way to meet the people living in the U.S. around me?
If you are moving into a neighborhood with a homeowners association (HOA), you might be able to attend different events that the neighborhood puts together for their residents. Also, be sure to introduce yourself to your next door neighbor. Getting involved with your child's school is also another way to meet parents in your area. There are so many different ways to meet people and it's all about what you feel comfortable with, but remember, moving to a new city or state could also mean stepping out of your comfort zone.
What is the best way to financially prepare for a big move to the U.S.?
The first thing you need to do is research your costs. How much you want to spend on a new home, how much you can sell or rent your old home for, how much the moving trucks will cost, insurance, etc. From there, you want to create a budget for how you are going to finance this move. Most people will take a portion of money out of their paychecks each time to help finance the move. You will, most likely, not be able to afford to move in less than a month, so plan ahead and do your research!
Is living in a neighborhood with a Homeowners Association (HOA) a good investment?
Living in a HOA neighborhood can be a great investment! Most of the time, a neighborhood with a HOA is well kept in communal areas such as parks, sidewalks, pools, playgrounds, etc. If there are conflicts in the neighborhoods, the HOA can usually help by following the neighborhood bylaws. HOA neighborhoods also sponsor lots of events throughout the year which is a great way to get to know your neighbors!
How do I find out how much my move to the U.S. is going to cost?
Most moving companies offer a free estimate for your move! This number can include everything from insurance to gas, depending on how far you are going and what specifically they are moving for you. You will not be able to get the exact price of the move until the truck is loaded and weighed.
What should I not bring with me when I move to the U.S.?
There are a lot of things you will not be able to bring with you when you move. Anything that is flammable is not allowed. Paints, fertilizers, rubbing alcohol, loaded guns, aerosol cans and many more things cannot be brought with you in a moving vehicle. For a more extensive list, ask your movers what you can and cannot bring!
What do I do if my pet is flying with me?
If you are moving across the country and cannot drive, your pet will have to ride on the airplane with you. You will be required to bring your own carrier or crate for your pet. Your pet should not eat 5 to 6 hours before the flight. You can also contact your airline for more information about moving pets or exotic animals.
How long will the moving process take?
Each move is different and the time for each move varies. If you are moving to the U.S. from another country, the move will typically will take twice as long than if you are moving from state to state. If you are moving to another city or state the time required will be based on travel distance, as most everything else requires the same amount of time. The sooner you start planning for your next big move, the smoother your transition will be!

The sooner the better. It could take some sinking in time for kids in their teens because they will be leaving their schools and their friends, but if you plan for a move months in advance, the transition will be a little easier. Slowly start going through your belongings to see what you want to bring to your new home and what you want to leave behind. The sooner you start the more prepared you will be.

Most moving companies also offer extra insurance on top of your normal policy.
Should I pack my belongings myself or let the movers do that?
You can pack yourself, but using professional packer and shipping companies is always recommended. A shipping company has all the right gear, packaging fillment, and moving equipment and will be able to pack everything properly. Your insurance policy may not cover certain things if you pack them yourself and if they are damaged during the move.
When is the best time to move?
If you have children, the best time to move is in the summer; this way, your children will not have to be taken out of school in the middle of the year and they won't have to enter a new school in halfway through the school year. Your kids will be able to start on a fresh page in a new grade with everyone else. Most moving companies offer slightly better rates if you move in the off season.
